CASE FILE #977

DOVER DEMON

A watermelon-headed creature seen by four teenagers over two nights.

🛸🛸🛸🛸🛸TINFOIL RATING: 3/5

The Claim

Over two nights in April 1977, four separate teenagers in Dover, Massachusetts independently reported seeing a small, hairless creature with a large, watermelon-shaped head and glowing orange eyes. The witnesses didn't know each other well and gave strikingly similar sketches when interviewed separately.

The Evidence

  • Four independent witnesses across two nights describing nearly identical features.
  • Consistent hand-drawn sketches produced separately by each teenager.
  • No history of hoaxing or prior cryptid interest among any of the witnesses.

The Official Story

Skeptical investigators, including some who interviewed the witnesses directly, have suggested a young moose calf — which can look startlingly alien in silhouette, with a bulbous head and spindly legs — combined with the disorienting effect of car headlights at night. No physical evidence was ever recovered despite searches of the area.

File Notes

Unlike most cryptids, the Dover Demon has no folklore origin — it appeared out of nowhere in 1977 and was never reported again, making it one of cryptozoology's tidiest, most self-contained mysteries.
