The Claim
The chemtrail theory holds that the visible white trails left by high-altitude aircraft are not ordinary condensation but a deliberate spray of chemical or biological agents, for purposes ranging from weather control to population control, released with government knowledge or involvement.
The Evidence
- Visibly persistent white trails that sometimes linger and spread across the sky.
- Genuine historical precedent: real government cloud-seeding and weather-modification research exists.
- Online-shared soil and rainwater tests some claim show unusual chemical traces.
The Official Story
Contrails are well-understood condensation trails, formed when hot, humid jet engine exhaust meets cold, high-altitude air, the same basic physics as seeing your breath on a cold day. Whether they persist or dissipate depends entirely on atmospheric humidity at that altitude, which is why identical planes on identical routes can leave short-lived or long-lasting trails purely due to weather. A comprehensive 2016 survey of atmospheric scientists found no evidence supporting a secret spraying program.
File Notes
The theory has proven durable enough that several U.S. states have passed or proposed laws explicitly banning “chemtrails,” despite atmospheric scientists' near-unanimous agreement that there's nothing to ban.
